Bring Inclusive Volunteering to Your Community!

Do you want to give back to your community and promote the inclusion of people with disabilities at the same time?

The Arc has received funding to offer $5,000 – $20,000 grants to chapters of The Arc and other community organizations to develop virtual service projects that help communities be better equipped in case of disaster.

These projects not only meet a need in the community—they give all volunteers the opportunity to develop skills and build relationships and help volunteers without disabilities learn how to better support people with disabilities during emergencies.

Grant Guidelines

All volunteer events must be virtual and held throughout the grant period (ending December 31, 2021).

Volunteer activities should help build resilience within communities to be better prepared in case of disaster or emergencies.

Grantees will:

  • Create virtual volunteer opportunities for individuals to participate in throughout the year that focus on emergency preparedness and includes a signature virtual event on the September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance.
  • Create a training resource that volunteers review prior to serving which highlights importance of including people with disabilities in emergency plans.
  • Partner with a service organization/club to recruit volunteers with and without disabilities from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to participate in the project
  • Work with emergency preparedness groups and/or local first responders (e.g., fire, EMS, or police departments) to partner with volunteers to increase community safety, preparedness, and resilience in case of a disaster, or honor those that are first responders helping on the frontlines.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: Received by Friday, March 19, 2021
