From the Developmental Disabilities Administration:
Our Accessible and Affordable Housing team worked closely with the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Housing Trust Fund, legislators, housing developers and advocates to expand affordable housing opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The HTF is a competitive loan and grant program through the Washington Department of Commerce. DDA provided data and information regarding the housing needs of people with intellectual developmental disabilities. This information showed the need for more affordable housing in the IDD community. DDA also participated in the HTF IDD housing application review process.
On Dec. 21, the Department of Commerce announced the awards for 2022 projects, which included awards for all nine dedicated IDD projects proposed for this round.
- The Housing Trust Fund awarded a total of $12.2 million for IDD housing support.
- A total of 65 affordable IDD units are planned (26 apartment units and 39 scattered single family house units/bedrooms).
This was a huge win for people with IDD following 2021 where the HTF awarded only eight IDD units.
Great collaboration leads to fruitful results!
